What is the I CAN Approach?
At the heart of the I CAN Approach to education is the child. This philosophy puts the child at the center of the education system, harnessing and nurturing their inherent "I CAN" superpower through intentional design thinking. The approach empowers learners of all ages to focus on a "both" "and" model, where content and character, passion and compassion, doing good and doing well are equally important.
By instilling in every child the ability to say "I CAN," the approach activates their agency for the greater good and prepares them to become citizens of the world. Educators can use the values of Empathy, Ethics, Excellence, and Elevation to intentionally design a curriculum, timetable, and practices that make the child humane by design.

THE HUMANEFRAMEWORK
Over the past 20 years, The Riverside School has developed and refined a set of processes and practices to cultivate a HumanE culture, ultimately graduating children with the I CAN Mindset.
These processes are codified into 6 Pillars that form the foundation of any school ecosystem. Through these pillars, Riverside has designed the I CAN Programmes to empower schools to implement a "Both-And" model—balancing content, character, and culture—and to transform into an I CAN School.
