What is the I CAN Approach?
At the heart of the I CAN Approach to education is the child. This philosophy puts the child at the center of the education system, harnessing and nurturing their inherent "I CAN" superpower through intentional design thinking. The approach empowers learners of all ages to focus on a "both" "and" model, where content and character, passion and compassion, doing good and doing well are equally important.
By instilling in every child the ability to say "I CAN," the approach activates their agency for the greater good and prepares them to become citizens of the world. Educators can use the values of Empathy, Ethics, Excellence, and Elevation to intentionally design a curriculum, timetable, and practices that make the child humane by design.

WHAT IS THE
I CAN MINDSET
The I CAN MINDSET is a set of beliefs, skills and attitudes that are fostered and nurtured over time to shape young global citizen leaders who are:
AWARE of the world around them
ENABLED with skills to make change and
EMPOWERED to design a more desired, sustainable future for the greater good
This mindset is nourished by the values of Empathy / Ethics / Excellence / Elevation and Evolution – the 5 E’s that move us from being ‘Human to HumanE’

BUILDING THE I CAN MINDSET. BY DESIGN
THE HUMANEFRAMEWORK
Over the last 20 years, The Riverside School has designed and refined a set of processes and practices to build a HumanE culture, which in turn graduates children with the I CAN MINDSET.
RLC has codified these processes and curated them under the 6 Pillars that make up any school ecosystem. Using these processes, RLC has designed the I CAN PROGRAMMES to empower schools to intentionally timetable a BOTH, AND model and become an I CAN SCHOOL.
